About Dr. Jean Layton
Dr. Jean is a Washington state licensed naturopathic physician who has been practicing in Bellingham since 2004.
Her varied background and education includes training at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon as well as time spent as a New York City chef. This combination of formal medical education with diverse professional experiences allows her to draw upon a repertoire of different modalities to treat the entire patient. From personal experience, she is skilled at leading a person from ill health to wholeness whether through her cranio-sacral therapy, general consultations or the practical knowledge and perspective she provides through dietary advice.
Dr. Jean specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of gluten intolerance and celiac disease. To better involve this population, she proudly serves on the board of the Bellingham Gluten Intolerance Group and facilitates the Healthy Gluten-Free Kids Support Group. This allows Dr. Jean the opportunity to give back to the community and increase her awareness of how Bellingham and the surrounding areas are evolving to support people with food allergies.
Dr. Jean also teaches a variety of gluten-free cooking classes through Whatcom Community College and The Community Co-op, if you’re interested in learning how to prepare a diverse selection of healthy, allergen-free meals and treats.
In addition to her work with the gluten-free support groups in town, Dr. Jean also belongs to the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Sustainable Connections and the Women’s Professional Network.
She is an active social media writer. Her two main blogs are about thriving gluten free.
www.GFDoctor.com covers the world of gluten intolerance and celiac disease research.
www.GFDoctorRecipes.com is her recipe blog from recipe conversions to new ways of thriving gluten free.
You can also find her on Twitter @GFDoctor and Facebook -GFDoctor
When Dr. Jean is not treating patients or writing you may find her fine-tuning her herbalist skills, experimenting in the kitchen, spinning and knitting, coaching young women to develop their potentials as leader of a Girl Scout troop as well as fulfilling the role of proud, active mom of twin girls.
Dr. Jean truly lives by the Naturopathic Oath she swore to at graduation:
